This Underground Tour Will Show You The Dark Side Of Our Northern California’s History
You could live in Northern California for your entire life and still not uncover all there is to know about our state’s history. But don’t fear. The Sacramento History Museum is famous for their beloved history tours and they are a must for anybody with an interest in our state’s past. California’s capital city actually has a fascinating history, and you can learn all about the darkest parts of it when you take part in this after-hours underground tour. This tour is designed to educate visitors about the “dark side” of early Sacramento, and it’s endlessly fascinating. Check it out!
Did you know that Sacramento has an underground? It's true, and it can tell us a whole lot about Sacramento's fascinating history. You can even see it for yourself when you take one of the underground tours at Sacramento History Museum.
It turns out the capital city was first settled along the Sacramento River. However, this made the city incredibly prone to floods. In response, they began raising the streets and buildings. Thanks to recent excavations, the very first floor of Old Sacramento has been uncovered.
This is a little-known piece of our state's history that you'll definitely want to see for yourself. The Old Sacramento Underground Tour departs from the Sacramento History Museum. It's a half-mile guided walking tour that takes visitors to all of the city's most fascinating spots.
If you think you're up for it, the Underground After Hours Tour will be kicking off in May. This tour is different from the usual underground tour because visitors will learn all about the "dark parts" of Sacramento's history. Topics including murder, mischief, madness, and mayhem will all come to light.
On the After Hours tour, you'll be led to saloons, gaming halls, theaters, and houses of ill-fame. Stories of political intrigue, crime, and noteriety will be divulged. Needless to say, participants must be 21 or older in order to take the tour.
The colorful guides won't just teach you about Old Sacramento, they will make you feel like you're
living it. Taking part in this one-of-a-kind tour couldn't be more different from reading about it in textbook!
Think you can handle learning about Old Sacramento's hidden past? Tickets are $25 per person and the tours take place most Thursdays through Saturdays at 6:00 pm, May through October.
