If you’ve never done it, you absolutely must attend a hot air balloon festival! The feeling when you see these immense balloons soar high into the heavens is indescribable. If you’re in the Northern California area, you’ll get your chance September 24-25 at the annual Clovis Fest and Hot Air Balloon Fun Fly.
Held in Old Town Clovis, only a stone’s throw north of Fresno, the Clovis Fest and Hot Air Balloon Fun Fly is a uniquely colorful experience.
The event takes place at the Rodeo Grounds. Here, thousands of people will gather over the 2-day event to enjoy morning and evening balloon glows, artisan booths, international food vendors, live cultural performances, and a great deal more.
It really is incredible to see these enormous balloons up close.
The festivities officially begin at 8:00 a.m., however, it’s suggested that you arrive around 6:00 a.m. to enjoy a prime viewing position when the crews first start to inflate the balloons for the early morning lift-off.
Just like a motor vehicle, hot air balloons are “started” by an engine.
The engine is called a Burner which compresses propane through cylinders and then moves to a pilot light. The heat is intense!
When filled, the average balloon swells to encompass approximately 77,000 cubic feet.
The balloons are flown by "pilots" and the overall management of the equipment and flight is typically facilitated by a 3-to-4-person crew.
Clovis Fest and Hot Air Balloon Fun Fly attendees can enjoy a wide array of fun activities spanning over twelve city blocks.
Besides the balloons, the focal point of the event is the International Village. All day long there will be cultural performances by numerous groups and organizations from all over Fresno County and further afield. There will also be a Made in Clovis & Children’s Business Fair, Kids Zone, Beer Garden, and other attractions.
Be sure not to miss the night glow when the sky is lit with the flames from these beautiful balloons.
There’s no better way to enjoy sunset in the Fresno area!
If you’re looking for a fun, exciting, and truly colorful event, be sure to attend this year’s Clovis Fest and Hot Air Balloon Fun Fly!
