There Are 3 Must-See Historic Landmarks In The Charming Town Of Sutter Creek, Northern California
The Northern California town of Sutter Creek offers a trip back to the 19th century, with a classic look that’s more preserved than manufactured. The Sutter Creek Community Benefit Foundation has created Miners’ Bend Park to recognize the town’s historic place in the Gold Rush, while sites such as the Knight Foundry and the Monteverde Store Museum have been maintained with their authentic, original looks. Walking along Sutter Creek’s Main Street is a treat in and of itself, and seeking out these historic sites gives a visit to this NorCal town even more texture. Once you visit Sutter Creek, you will see why the town labels itself the “Jewel of the Mother Lode.”
The furnace and crucible show how Knight Foundry was a working plant, not designed as a museum,. That makes it authentic. The Central Eureka Mine closed in 1954, a century after Sutter Creek became a mining boom town. That history is preserved in the park that features interpretive signs about the equipment.

A sign in the window in 1971 said the store would be closed "for a few days," but it never reopened after 75 years of operation. It became a museum in 1992, with items displayed the same way as ever. The museum is open Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
