Real ice cream fans are diehards. It doesn’t matter if it's winter, spring, summer, or fall, they’re down for some delicious, lip-smacking ice cream treats. If this sounds like you, then buckle up for a visit to The Ice Cream Bar in San Francisco. Here, milkshakes are just the beginning of the adventure!
Located in the city’s Cole Valley neighborhood and just a few blocks from world famous Golden Gate Park, The Ice Cream Bar is, in a word - cool.
The first thing to catch your eye here is the great attention paid to creating this full-service 1930s-style soda fountain.
The vibe is definitely right on.
All of the ice cream options are made in-house from scratch using locally sourced dairy and produce. And that authenticity comes through.
If you’ve got a hankering for a milkshake, there are the classic flavors, of course, like chocolate, vanilla, butterscotch, fudge brownie, mint chip, and the like.
But if you want to walk on the wild side, your tastebuds with thank you with scrumptious creations like the caramelized honey, creme fraiche, macadamia, banana puddin’, and Tres Leches Cake (for which they really use four kinds of milk).
Vegan options are plentiful as well including the coconut peanut brittle and coconut milk dark chocolate almond.
Most of the ice cream flavors here are gluten-free, and many are nut-free as well so regardless of your dietary needs or restrictions, you’re sure to find something to suit your ice cream fix! If you’re more of a sorbet-type, opt for the blood orange passionfruit or dark chocolate (both vegan).
For those over the age of 21, there are what they call “Boozy Drinks” as well.
Think the Dublin Honey, caramelized honey ice cream bouncing in Guinness stout; Fortunato's Reviver, caramelized honey and vanilla ice creams with black walnuts, sherry, and vermouth; Royal Red, Morello cherry ice cream red ale, sherry, and turbinado syrup; and the Sunday Morning sorbet float made with sparkling wine. For those who don’t imbibe there’s the non-alcoholic New Orleans Hangover made with coffee and chicory.
As you might imagine, The Ice Cream Bar also serves up delicious banana splits, a classic dish where any ice cream flavor goes, and handcrafted ice cream sandwiches.
During one of those cold San Francisco days or nights, the hot chocolate (go ahead, add a scoop of ice cream!) hits the spot.
And don’t forget the baked desserts!
Tasty treats encompass crusty pies, gooey chocolate chip cookies, cookie sandwiches, and crumbly brownies.
Yeah, you’re salivating just thinking about coming here! But that’s OK. The Ice Cream Bar is definitely a worthy "Bucket List" stop when visiting the City by the Bay!
