Meander Through A Picturesque Mountain Range Along The 1.7-Mile Floating Island Lake Trail In California For An Unforgettable Outdoor Adventure
The Lake Tahoe area is a wonderland of beautiful waterways, mountainous regions, recreational areas, campgrounds, and more. One of the most popular activities to enjoy in the area is hiking. A great place to do this is along the Floating Island Lake Trail.
Once here you’ll find that there are actually three trails in one.
Together the area is commonly referred to as the Desolation Wilderness, Mount Tallac Trailhead, its components being the Floating Island Lake Trail, Cathedral Lake Trail, and Mount Tallac, extending one way 1.7 miles, 2.5 miles, and 5 miles, respectively.
No matter what time of year you choose to explore, getting here is relatively easy.
From South Lake Tahoe, you take Highway 89 for approximately 3.5 miles, or set your odometer to go 18 miles south of Emerald Bay State Park, located on the west side of Lake Tahoe.
The Floating Island Lake Trail is considered to be a moderate level hike, making it a great option for people of different hiking and stamina abilities.
Be sure to stop along the way to take pictures, take a dip in the cool water (depending on the time of year, if you dare), enjoy a picnic lunch, or just meditate to the sound of the water lapping up to the shore.
