Warm, gooey apple filling. Crisp, flaky, butter crust. The steamy aroma of cinnamon and cloves. For those of us who grew up in the Northern California countryside, nothing says home baked like a seasonal apple pie in the heart of harvest time.
Luckily for us, there are dozens of apple farms and orchards with their own pie shops throughout the state. These places use recipes that have been handed down from generation to generation to make that delicious homemade treat just like mom used to.
Here are just a few:
1. The Red Apple, Murphys
This family owned and operated establishment has tons of charm and home-baked goods.
2. Ikeda's, Auburn
A popular stop on the way to Tahoe, Ikeda's is located right off the Highway 80 corridor. Stock up on baked goods and fresh fruit before you head out on your weekend getaway.
3. High Hill Ranch, Camino
In addition to the mouthwatering home baked goods that High Hill Ranch is known for, this beautiful apple ranch also has seasonal crafts fairs, pony rides, and fishing in the pond. It a treat!
4. Flour Garden Bakery, Auburn

5. Cover's Apple Ranch, Tuolomne
This beautiful apple ranch and bakery is located near Yosemite National Park. What better way to enjoy the beauty of this wild landmark than with a belly full of warm, flaky apple pie?

Apple pies scream harvest season and always herald the coming of autumn for those of us who grew up in Northern California. Even if you don't get out into the countryside like you used to, have a slice of one of these pies and you'll instantly be transported back to a simpler time.
