The Underground Wine Cave In New York You Have To Visit
If you’re looking to enjoy the best of the best when it comes to New York’s wine, most people tend to head out to the many vineyards and wineries that make up our Finger Lakes Region. So when I tell you that one of the most fascinating and historic wineries in our state is hidden away down in the Hudson Valley, you’d have a right to feel slightly surprised.
With that said, not only is this place known for being the country’s oldest winery, it also offers something else that most of our state’s wine-themed attractions don’t offer – and that’s an underground wine cave! Take a peak.
A historic attraction that's been producing wine since 1839, Brotherhood Winery is the oldest winery in the entire country.
Right in the town of Washingtonville, the winery features an entire property of wine-filled buildings that you can explore.
Throughout the year, visitors enjoy the pleasure of experiencing delicious wine tastings that are held within in gorgeous buildings.
These gorgeous buildings are also where you'll be able to shop around for the winery's delicious beverages, with everything from wine to cider available here.
As you walk around the grounds though, you might begin to notice that more and more visitors are sneaking away to underground locations.
Leaving you completely speechless, Brotherhood Winery has an incredible network of underground wine cellars.
Unlike anything you're used to seeing, the winery offers tours during the year that take you to these underground wine caves.
In areas of the underground network, you'll find pieces of history that you can learn more about.
Decorating areas of the caves, you'll get to see informational signs that give you greater detail on the winery's history and actual pieces of the past that have been well-preserved here.
Of course, this wouldn't be a wine cave with lots of wine - would it?
Aside from the never-ending view of wine barrels that line the halls of these underground, you'll also see plenty of rows and even locked away cellars full of wine that's so old it's covered in dust that's been around for longer than you've been.
So if you're looking to add a bucket-list worthy attraction to your winter itinerary, head underground at Brotherhood Winery.
Brotherhood Winery is located at
100 Brotherhood Plaza Drive, Washingtonville, NY 10992
. If you’re ready to plan a trip to this historic winery, please choose to visit during any hours between Friday, Saturday, and Sunday between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
