Making everyone feel like a kid again, winter activities like going for a ride down a tall toboggan chute are perfect for all ages. Last year you may remember we suggested you all visit Chestnut Ridge Park to experience the incredible toboggan chutes that are hiding away out in Western New York. Well, good news! This isn't the only tobogganing location that you can enjoy. Giving our residents in the eastern half of our state something to get excited about, this Adirondack toboggan park will complete your winter!
Fingers crossed! The Lake Placid Toboggan Chute should soon be open for New Yorkers to experience this winter.
If you're unfamiliar with the history of the Lake Placid Toboggan Chute, then let me give you a quick rundown. The original went up in town during the mid-1960s and remained there until after the 2016 winter season. The old slide was converted into a toboggan slide out of an old chute that was from the Lake Placid Olympic Ski Jump. After not operating during the 2016 winter season due to lack of cold enough weather and thick enough ice, the chute was deemed unsafe and a new one was built! This year will be the second year of operation for Lake Placid's new toboggan slide.
Wait in line and make your way to the top of the 30-foot tall slide where you'll begin your journey out to the lake.
During the holidays and on weekends when events are going on in town, those who are tobogganing may find that they have to wait up 15-minutes in line to reach the top. While the waiting may be longer during busier times like these, it's always worth it in the end.
Allowing you to pick up enough speed to send you up to 1,000 feet out onto Mirror Lake, you'll be surrounded by smiling face and our beautiful Adirondack scenery as you fly out onto the frozen water.
Toboggans for the slide are rented right here at the location, right on Parkside Drive near the Post Office. Tickets to enjoy the slide cost $10 dollars for adults and $5 dollars for kids, giving you unlimited access to the slide during the scheduled time that you're there. The toboggans hold 2 to 4 people, making it the perfect size for family fun!
A beautiful and unique way to get out onto the lake that you'll never forget, the Lake Placid Toboggan Slide is one adventure you need to put on your bucket list.
Generally speaking, the slide aims to be open by Mid-January each year. In the past, warm weather has prevented the slide from opening on time, if at all. But the good news is,that this year things have already gotten off to a frigid start, creating the perfect atmosphere for a winter full of toboggan chute rides out onto Mirror Lake. In order to get the chute up and running safely for visitors, those managing it like to make sure there's at least 10-12 inches of solid ice out on the lake.

Sundays from 12PM to 3PM
