One of the many things that we're spoiled with as New Yorkers is the fact that we live in a state where there is a magical abundance of incredible campgrounds. Hidden away in every region, it won't be long before you find your go-to campground within the Empire State. With each campground having its own features that make them stand out amongst the rest, see why this one is unlike all the rest in the most mesmerizing way possible!
One of our state's most amazing attractions, Herkimer Diamond Mines is a place that seems too good to be true.
For more than 30 years, Herkimer Diamond MInes has been welcoming visitors to their property to go searching for literal gems.
After experiencing a devastating fire in the fall of 2017 that destroyed the mine's historic barn and store, the resort built new structures that now carry out that attraction's old-time Western theme.
Featuring a cafe, gift shop, and so much more - there's a lot to experience at this small-town diamond mine.
While you'll find everything you need available to buy or rent here at the mine, adventurers and treasure hunters are encouraged to come equipped with things like closed shoes, shovels, gloves, and eyewear.
All waiting to be explored by you, the entire resort covers 250-acres.
Made up of three mines, all you'll have to do is pick a spot to set up shop and start digging away!
A great way to spend time outdoors, the entire family and adventurers of all ages can enjoy digging for Herkimer diamonds here.
As you begin to chisel away at the rock, you'll start to find actual Herkimer diamonds.
While sometimes the diamonds are already out of the rock, only needing to sift through the dirt and smaller rubble to find them.
As part of your entry fee to the mines, you can use the ziplock bag that's given to you to put all the diamonds that you find into.
Who wouldn't want to get their hands on these nearly 500-million-year-old quartz crystals?
The other amazing part about Herkimer Diamond Mines is that it's actually a KOA resort!
From RV sites, cabins, and treehouses, this campground offers a variety of accommodations.
Allowing you to spend more time searching for treasure, it's easy to see why people would want to camp out here.
If you're ready to experience a campground where you can also go digging for diamonds, plan a trip to Herkimer Diamond KOA Resort this year.
