While incredibly cold, winter can bring some stunning beauty along with it. Between freshly fallen snow blanketing the landscape to icicles forming on trees and rocks, there can be a magical quality to the season. And if you want to experience the beauty of winter in New Mexico, Fenton Lake State Park is one place you should visit.
Set in the Jemez Mountains and surrounded by towering ponderosa pine trees, Fenton Lake State Park is a serene escape no matter the time of year.
And with an elevation of 7,650 feet, the area sees plenty of snow and cold weather in the winter.
Fenton Lake State Park is comprised of 700 acres including a 37-acre lake. When cold enough, the lake freezes over in the winter and it's absolutely beautiful!
When hiking through this scenic park throughout the year, the scenery is just outstanding. Between the pine trees, the mountains, and the lake, it's as picture-perfect as can be.
But in the winter, the park certainly transforms into a winter wonderland. To get around, you can either hike, snowshoe, or cross-country ski.
And if you enjoy fishing, ice fishing is a possibility here at Fenton Lake State Park in the winter. Just come prepared!
