There’s a lot to love about New Jersey and sometimes things can get overlooked. One little gem shares the spotlight with the larger cities it’s sandwiched between. Head north from Somerville and you’ll hit magical Morristown, loaded with history and culture. Head south and you’ll land in picturesque Princeton, home to the Ivy League University of the same name. But why head anywhere when Somerville has so much to offer?

While it's far from city-sized, it offers plenty to do and see...but let's start with the history. The town is home to the first competitive bicycle race in America, the Tour of Somerville. It was founded in 1940 by a local bike shop owner who wanted to showcase his son's skills. In addition, one of the founders of modern American Dance, Ruth St. Denis, made her professional debut at Somerset Hall, once a vaudeville theatre and today a local restaurant.
It's definitely a top-notch dining destination.

Savor is one of the more popular spots in town, serving up mouthwatering Italian and American cuisine. A BYOB spot with some of the best desserts around, be sure to try their chocolate lava cake. Other incredible options include Verve (exquisite cocktails and French cuisine), The Farmer And The Chickpea (farm fresh foods and plenty of vegetarian/vegan choices), Da Filippo's (try the bruschetta), and Origin (terrific Thai). If ice cream is your thing, don't miss out on the fun flavors at Summer Ville.
