This New Jersey Diner In The Middle Of Nowhere Is Downright Delicious
New Jersey is known as the “Diner Capital of the World” and we don’t disappoint. There are approximately 525 diners in our state, and every one is somebody’s favorite. Is it possible to label one diner as “the best?” Perhaps, but it would certainly be a point of contention. However, there’s one thing I think we can all agree on…this rural diner is something special.
You'll find yourself just minutes from Wharton State Forest but miles from civilization. Shamong is a small, predominantly residential town. There are only a handful of businesses including Valenzano Winery, Indian Mills Pizza, and Shamong Diner & Restaurant. What you'll find more than anything is farmland, but that doesn't mean Shamong doesn't do restaurants right.
A community gathering place, the diner is a family-owned business that serves up local produce seasonally, when available. You'll find a wide range of vegetarian options, hometown favorites, and seasonal soft-serve ice cream. They provide their customers with "great food, great service, and great smiles."
This accolade was awarded by NJ.com, and the diner beat out local staples including Mastoris and the Vincentown Diner. What makes it special? We do love the diverse menu...

They've got pizza, pasta, chicken fingers, cheddar cheese poppers, broccoli bites, scrambled tofu, tuna wraps, gyros, crab melts and more...you'll definitely want to try the cheesesteak wrap. When it comes to specials, there are deals for seniors and $10 lunches that include an entree, soup or salad, fries AND dessert.
Relax with a glass of wine (or beer) and be sure to stop at the shop before you go. A charming general store you'll find everything from gifts, to snacks, to essentials like charcoal and cleaning products. We love the selection of locally made goods! You never know what you'll find.
