This Funky Little Town In New Jersey Is A True Hidden Gem

The population sits just around 2,600 but it's actually the county seat. Its name means "beautiful to see" in Italian and we certainly agree. Though Belvidere spans just around 1.5 square miles, it has more certified historic Victorian homes than any other town in New Jersey. Some styles represented in the district are known as Georgian or Federal, Greek Revival, Gothic, Italianate, and Queen Anne. The town celebrates its rich Victorian-era history in a big way, but we'll get to that in a bit.

Though small, the town is big on things to do...relax by the water at Pequest River Park or raft on the Delaware! You can also enjoy great eats at Uncle Buck's Diner, Thisilldous Eatery, and Red Wolf Inn. For a taste of Broadway, check out one of the fantastic shows put on by Country Gate Players. Upcoming shows include Disney's Beauty & The Beast and Peter Pan, Jr. There are also some quaint shops to peruse including Ambiance Antiques Center and Back Home (another antique shop with a sizable selection of furniture).

Celebrate the 30th anniversary of Victorian Days from September 7th-9th, 2018. With events, vendors (artists, crafters, farmers), food, and music all weekend, there's sure to be something for everyone. You can expect a whole host of period costumes, historic home tours, cemetery tours, antique auto shows, and more. A favorite activity is the old-fashioned Victorian-style teas.
