This easy loop trail in New Hampshire is one of our favorites and with a convenient location, it's easy to add into an afternoon.
The Heron Point Sanctuary in Newmarket is a great loop trail in New Hampshire. Located close enough to town to make it a convenient part of a daily routine, this is an easy-to-navigate trail that offers plenty of views.
The trail is about 1.2 miles and it sits within 32 acres of forest that's been set aside for recreation.
The route is a mix of boardwalk and packed dirt so it's a good option for those who aren't looking to scramble over rocks or cover any elevation.
The boardwalk portion of the trail leads to the river, which is a great add-on when the weather is warm. Plan to add some time to enjoy the water.
But don't avoid it in the winter. The views are just as great this time of year and if there's fresh snow you'll find things quietly atmospheric.
Autumn is one of our favorite times to visit. The fall foliage is on display surrounding the trail.
Throughout the year the views are spectacular, proving that you don't need to venture off-the-beaten-path in New Hampshire to enjoy great a scenic day outside.
The trail opens around 8 a.m., and if you plan your visit for the morning, you'll find some added peace and quiet. The end of the day is another great time to visit.
Whether you choose to visit in the morning or late afternoon, winter or summer this is one fantastic trail for great views and the peace and quiet that comes with so many New Hampshire trails.
The Heron Point Sanctuary Loop Trail is open throughout the year. You'll find it heavily trafficked between April and October. You can learn more about how to enjoy by visiting alltrails.com. Don't leave the dogs at home, they're welcome to come along for this trail. Just remember to keep them on a leash.
