Lockes Hill Trail Is A Low-Key New Hampshire Hike That Has An Amazing Payoff
It’s easy to like the concept of hiking — fresh air, great exercise, and stunning views sounds pretty fantastic. However, many of us don’t have time to dedicate an entire day to the adventure, or it’s just not feasible (or fun) to imagine a multiple mile uphill climb.
Luckily, there are plenty of low-key hikes here in New Hampshire, some of which lead to some absolutely breathtaking views. The Lockes Hill Trail is one of them.
Lockes Hill Trail is a beautiful little loop that's located in the Kimball Wildlife Forest near Gilford.
If you want to traverse a fairly easy trail without sacrificing scenery, this is the place for you.
The Kimball Wildlife Forest is home to some great hikes, but the Lockes Hill Trail is definitely the best.
This place was originally known as the Tree Farm and was part of the estate of Benjamin Kimball, a wealthy railroad magnate in the late 1800s.
The entire loop is only 1.8 miles long, and the elevation gain is a mere 418 feet.
Still, don't be surprised if you have to stop and catch your breath, because you'll definitely be heading uphill.
In no time at all, you'll come across this incredible sight.
The views of Lake Winnipesaukee are absolutely unparalleled.
The views from the summit include not only the lake, but the Ossipee Mountains and the Sandwich Mountains.
You can complete this hike in under an hour, but we highly recommend taking your time so you can enjoy this scenery to the fullest.
This gentle, beautiful trail is family-friendly, and it's great for beginning hikers and seasoned pros alike.
You can even bring your dog as long as you also bring the dog's leash.
Have you hikes the Lockes Hill Trail yet? It’s accessible year-round, but it’s infinitely more enjoyable before the winter weather hits us.
