Each year we ease out of summer (if you’re like us, a bit unwillingly) and head into fall looking for the changing leaves to make us feel cozy and more peaceful. Each year we think we’ll have plenty of time to see them, but each year it seems like they appear overnight and then disappear just as quickly. To avoid that this year we’ve been researching when and where to see the best foliage and this interactive map has proven to be incredibly useful. Based on their research, this is what you can expect here in New Hampshire!
There are a lot of places to find information about fall foliage on the internet, but we love that the Smoky Mountains Fall Foliage Prediction Map is an interactive tool that predicts when and where the peak fall foliage will be across America. Lucky for us, New Hampshire is one of the very best places to see the colors!
Right now in the Granite State, the foliage is pretty split between the northern and southern parts of the state. While the north is just about ready to hit peak colors, the south is still seeing patchy changes. This is good news for people who haven't had the chance to get out and explore just yet.

Fast forward to September 28th and it looks like New Hampshire will be awash in color. The northern regions will be experiencing peak foliage, while the south will be partial and on its way to peak.
This would be a great time to visit Franconia Notch State Park which has tons of hikes that will take you through the forest to views like this. Even before leaves have hit their peak, you're likely to see some stunning color.
The White Mountains will offer tons in the way of photo ops for those who are looking to capture the beauty and share it with others. If you've been here during the fall season, you know that it's not uncommon to see cars pulled over for the perfect picture. Be careful as you drive!

Don't get caught up in feeling like you need to be in a place with poor cell reception to see the best of the season. All the way through October 12th, places like Portsmouth will be experiencing peak foliage. And larger towns are just as beautiful.
Wherever you decide to check out this season's changing leaves, remember to check out the interactive map and plan on heading out before October 19th. Foliage is predicted to be past peak by this time.
