While we normally recommend the Omni Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods for a special overnight stay, today we're approaching it from a different angle. There are tons of stories telling spooky tales of the hotel, but is this Mount Washington hotel haunted? You'll need to decide that for yourself! If you've always wanted to learn more about a haunted hotel in the White Mountains, a visit might be just what you need.
The Omni Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods was built in 1900 by Joseph Stickney. Named the Mount Washington Hotel at the time, the doors were officially opened to guests in 1902. But by this time, Stickney had grown quite ill. He died a short time later.
His wife Carolyn re-married a European prince rather quickly, but she herself passed away in 1936.
Soon after, things began changing around the hotel.
Employees reported seeing an ethereal woman floating through the Mount Washington Hotel hallways. At this point, I'm sure quite a few people were wondering, "is the Omni Mount Washington haunted?"
She was always dressed elegantly and often appeared in the background of photos.
Lights in the hotel mysteriously turned on and off, adding to the strange vibes emanating throughout the building.
Carolyn's old room, number 314, is still available to guests.
People report that this is the most haunted place in the entire hotel, perhaps because her actual bed is still in the room!
When you're deciding how to experience the world of haunted New Hampshire, we're thinking this might convince you to try this hotel!
While things here might be quite haunted, don't be afraid of a stay. The hotel is gorgeous and the ghosts seem to mean no harm.
