I mean, people that live in New Hampshire already know it's a pretty cool place. But if you're not from here or are not familiar with this part of the country, you may not realize how much the state has to offer. Sure, the rugged individualism and spectacular scenery are fairly well-known, but there's so much more to the Granite State. Find out why New Hampshire is the best state.
1. You want mountains and forests? We got 'em.
Nearly 90% of the Granite State is forested. Rising above those forests are some of the most majestic mountains this side of the Mississippi River, including the highest point, Mt. Washington.
2. The ocean is here too.
While New Hampshire's seacoast is the shortest in the nation at around 13 miles, there is still plenty of fun in the sun to be had at the edge of the state.
3. Lots of beautiful small towns.
As if they were taken right from a postcard, tranquil scenes of small-town New England dot the landscape around here.
4. No sales tax.
This is a huge one and is likely to never change. It's also a big draw for visitors from other states to come here to purchase goods.
5. New Hampshire is close to Boston.
For folks that don't want to leave Massachusetts too far behind, Boston is only an hour's drive south of Nashua.
6. A long and storied history of industry.
The abundance of waterways in New Hampshire gave rise to manufacturing in the 19th century, cementing the state's place as a center of innovation.
7. There are over 20 colleges and universities here.
The Granite State offers an array of higher education opportunities ranging from local community colleges to state universities.
8. The stunning autumn foliage.
Fall in New Hampshire absolutely explodes with beautiful colors, and the perfect place to catch it is along the back roads through the countryside.
9. The weather.
No, seriously. Sure, the winters here can be pretty harsh, but this is a state where you can experience all four seasons and see how New Hampshire transforms through each.
10. It's home to some of the finest beer in the northeast.
Craft brewing is a burgeoning industry here. If you're a fan of great beer, you'll find it in New Hampshire.
11. Things are generally safe here.
New Hampshire has consistently been ranked as one of the safest places to live. Low property and violent crime rates are significantly lower than in other states.
12. Driving around the state is (mostly) a piece of cake.
Outside of the major cities in southern New Hampshire, there's pretty much a lack of traffic in most places. As you head up into the North Country, even less. Plus, the drives are pretty darn beautiful.
So, do you agree that New Hampshire is the best state? Along with what's listed above, there must be other reasons why New Hampshire is pretty great, right? Feel free to share your reasons in the comments!
