Though winters here can bring temperatures down to about 22 degrees Fahrenheit, winters are not wasted as this destination offers beauty and a long list of activities. In fact, Gardnerville in winter is absolutely delightful!

If you enjoy a hike through the crisp, cool air while soaking in some of the region’s best scenery, head to River Fork Ranch West Trail located in the River Fork Ranch Preserve. Here, you can see birds and friendly cows along the trail as it winds with the river. This is a short and easy four-mile hike that may get a little muddy during the winter months, so dress comfortably.

Speaking of bird watching, admirers of eagles can explore many programs (including tours!) to learn and enjoy majestic raptors at the annual Eagles and Agriculture event! Eagles and Agriculture is set to take place in many Carson Valley locations, including Gardnerville, on select dates in the month of February each year.

Perfect for kids and everyone in your family, the 32-acre park has everything from ball courts to multi-use fields and picnic tables. During winter, many visit to enjoy the mountain backdrop and the serene Willow Creek. Find Lampe Park on Waterloo Lane. The park is open 24 hours a day.

And when it’s time to grab a bite, check out Kim’s Donut and Teahouse, just a hop, skip, and a jump away from Lampe Park! This sweet spot is dedicated to making fresh and delicious donuts in so many varieties that you won’t know which to choose. It’s also the perfect place to warm up with a nice cup of your favorite tea. Kim’s Donut and Teahouse is conveniently located right off of US-395 N in Park Place at Lampe Corners Plaza.

With many ski resorts less than an hour away, plus so many wonderful opportunities for winter activities like sledding, cross-country skiing, and more, it might be a good idea to find lodging and prolong your stay in Gardnerville! A great option is the Historian Inn. The Historian Inn is located smack dab in the middle of town. It’s a pet-friendly location built in 2000.
