The Breathtaking Overlook In Nebraska That Lets You See For Miles And Miles
As beautiful as Nebraska is from the ground – and it’s plenty beautiful – there’s nothing quite like seeing it from a new perspective. Take a short hike through one of the state’s most beloved state parks to get to this absolutely breathtaking overlook.
Ponca State Park, in northeastern Nebraska, is located in one of the loveliest natural areas in the state. The heavily wooded area is nestled right up against the Missouri River, creating a wonderfully lush landscape.
Aside from the natural shifts that take place over time, this part of the river looks a lot like it did back when Lewis and Clark passed through here so many generations ago.
You'll learn a bit about the Lewis and Clark expedition along with other fascinating Nebraska history. But don't forget to look up and take in the view!
If you can time your arrival at the overlook for sunrise or sunset, you'll get the best views of all. The sun lights up the water and gently illuminates the trees, providing a vista worthy of a postcard.
Ponca State Park is located just east of Ponca, right on the banks of the Missouri River. It’s open year-round and requires a parks permit for entry. There are cabins and campsites for those who want to extend their stay to multiple days, which is highly recommended.
