It’s not every day you hear about a woman moving from the big city of Chicago to Alma, Nebraska, to open an alpaca farm. But that’s exactly what Tashia Butterfield did in 2012, and these days, Butterfield Alpaca Ranch is a successful venture with over 30 alpacas and llamas. And when you visit, you can get up close and personal with her adorable animals.

In 2010, Tashia was a master crocheter who taught classes at a Chicago yarn store.

But when she visited her first alpaca farm the next year, she knew it was her destiny to open one. She moved to Nebraska in 2012 (after teaching English in Korea for six months to raise money) and opened Butterfield Alpaca Ranch.
What started with one pregnant female alpaca has now grown to a fleet of 30.
