The Story Behind This Haunted River In Wyoming Will Send Shivers Down Your Spine
The North Platte River winds through Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska but there's something very unusual about the section of river that runs through Wyoming. This section through Wyoming is a narrow band with swift moving water that is typically only navigable at high water by canoes, kayaks or rafts. That's why what I'm getting ready to tell you will sound very strange. There's been a ship spotted along the river in Wyoming...and it's no ordinary ship!
The North Platte River emerges from the mountains near Casper, along the northern edge of the Laramie Mountains, across the plains of eastern Wyoming, past the town of Douglas, through Glendo and Guernsey Reservoirs and on past the Fort Laramie National Historic Site where it joins the Laramie River.
Next time you happen to be anywhere near the river in any of these areas, you'd better keep an eye out for a very strange occurrence.
While it looks just like any other river, there's something very unusual about the North Platte River. Individuals have reported seeing a ghost ship sailing along the river.
Along with the phantom ship is a massive blanket of fog. The ship and crew appear to be covered with frost.
The crew appears to be huddled around a corpse lying on a sheet. Supposedly, the ship foreshadows the death of someone known by the person witnessing this event on the day the ship is spotted.
When the crew steps back, the identity of the corpse is revealed and known to those who see the ship.
One of the first sightings occurred in 1862 when a trapper spotted the ship and saw his girlfriend lying on the sheet who died later that day. A cattleman also spotted the ship in 1887 and saw his wife laid out on the deck of the ship. She too died later that day.
The ship has recently been spotted at Bessemer Bend and six miles southeast of Guernsey.
Have you ever seen the 'Death Ship of the Platte River'? Hopefully not, especially if you lost a loved one later that day.
