9 Places In Wisconsin That’ll Make You Swear You’re On Another Planet
We always tend to crave what is different from what we have. And what we tend to think we have in Wisconsin is mile after mile of farmland. And while that's true, there are also some really incredible spots that make you feel like you are not at all in Wisconsin. Heck, they might even make you feel like you aren't on this planet! Here are nine spots that are simply surreal.
1. Apostle Islands
The Apostle Islands in winter might make you feel like you're on the planet Hoth or something. When the water freezes over, you can explore the caves on foot. Wow!
2. High Cliff State Park
These awesome limestone bluffs are part of the Niagara Escarpment - yep, that Niagara. They actually extend all the way to New York. The exposed cliff habitats are phenomenal.
3. Devil's Lake State Park
This state park has all sorts of weird rock formations, like some giant alien picked up the rocks and arranged them all weird. Most famous, of course, is Devil's Doorway.
4. Trempealeau Mountain, Perrot State Park
Along the Mississippi River - the entire Mississippi River - there are three solid rock islands. This is one of them. Where does it get the name? From the French, of course: "the mountain whose foot is bathed in water."
5. Governor Dodge State Park
Deep valleys, interesting rocks, and waterfalls will take your breath away. It is located in the driftless area, which is an area with deeply carved river valleys.
6. Big Manitou Falls
This 165 foot waterfall will stun you in person. We've all seen waterfalls before (hopefully!) and those are pretty cool. This one doesn't even seem real.
7. Rib Mountain State Park
Rib Mountain State Park has this special charm to be super eerie (like pictured here). This almost reminds me of a scene in a sci-fi movie where someone is about to get eaten. Also, it has a billion year old hill. Yes, billion with a B.
8. Mill Bluff State Park
12,000 years ago, this was all a bunch of glaciers. Look how it turned out now. The result is that there are some really bizarre large bluffs that just sort of shoot out of the flat land surrounding them.
9. Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest
Pictured here are some very intense fungi. In this large forest, you will spot all sorts of interesting flora, some which is very rare and like nothing you have ever seen before.
Are there other spots in Wisconsin that are otherworldly?
