You Haven’t Lived Until You’ve Experienced This One Incredible Cave In West Virginia

West Virginia has many amazing caves, both commercial and wild. You can experience the best of both types at the Lost World Caverns near Lewisburg, WV.

The caverns descend 235 feet below the Earth's surface, and the passages extend more than a mile.

The tour of the cave is self-guided, so you can take your time to explore and take pictures.

The cave contains stalagmites, flowstone, curtains, rimstone, domepits, and limestone waterfalls.

In addition to the stunning formations, the cave also has some interesting history.

The War Club formation brought fame to the cave in 1971, when Bob Addis set the unofficial World Record for "Stalagmite Sitting."

He sat on top of the formation for 15 days, 23 hours, and 34 minutes.

In 1967, the fossil of a prehistoric cave bear was found in the cave.

If you're looking for something even more adventurous, the cave offers tours of the wild portion.

Explorers will get muddy and have to squeeze through small spaces, but they say it's worth it.

The guided wild cave tour takes about 4-5 hours. The tour guides provide the necessary gear and photos of your trip.

Before you leave, be sure to explore the visitors center.

It has a small museum with information about dinosaurs and other fossils, and a gift shop.
