While we're fortunate to live in a coastal setting with plenty of saltwater shorelines, our inland beaches are also lovely. One example is Lake Sammamish, a freshwater lake with such extraordinary beauty you'd swear you were at the coast. This pristine inland beach in Washington feels miles away, yet it is conveniently located near Seattle and Bellevue.

Lake Sammamish is nestled within the 531-acre Lake Sammamish State Park and boasts a scenic waterfront and wooded trails.

Surrounded by lush greenery and vast wetlands, Lake Sammamish offers abundant outdoor recreation with an off-grid feel while still being close to urban areas.

In addition to swimming, visitors can take to the water by boat, kayak, or stand-up paddleboard. Embrace the tranquility that comes from gliding over still waters at sunrise.

If you're lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of some of the park's wildlife friends. The Lake Sammamish wetlands are made up of reed grasses, willows, and dense native shrubs, providing an ideal habitat for all kinds of wildlife, including beavers, blue herons, eagles, and warm water fish.

Explore the park by land on the extensive paved trails suitable for walking, running, and biking. While coastal beaches have their own charm, there's something quite captivating about Lake Sammamish.

Lake Sammamish State Park is open year-round from 6:30 a.m. to dusk. As with all state parks in Washington, a Discover Pass is required to visit Lake Sammamish. Purchase a Discover Pass online or at the park's automated pay station.
