If you've lived in Virginia long enough, you've most likely heard about the state's fascinating cavern system. In fact, Virginia has eight unique caverns, each worthy of a visit. Today, we'll focus on Shenandoah Caverns in Quicksburg, Virginia. An iconic tourist destination since 1922, Shenandoah Caverns has impressed residents and visitors alike with its underground tour. Here's more on this unique Virginia adventure that belongs at the top of your bucket list.

Shenandoah Cavern is located in Quicksburg, Virginia, which is easily accessible from I-81 between Mt. Jackson and New Market.

When you sign up for a tour, you can look forward to a one-mile journey through 17 accessible and breathtaking "rooms" inside the caverns.

The tour lasts approximately one hour and will offer visitors an up-close-and-personal look at some otherworldly rock formations.

The caverns were formed millions of years ago, shaped by underground rivers and earth movements.

The colorful LED lighting emphasizes the dramatic nature of the stalactites, stalagmites, and flowstone.

Perhaps the most fascinating aspect of this underground tour is realizing just how ancient these rocks are. In fact, scientists estimate that the formations grow only 1 cubic inch every 100-125 years.

After your tour, you can spend time enjoying some of the other on-site attractions, including the Main Street of Yesteryear Antiques and American Celebration on Parade, which showcases some historic parade floats from around the country.
