This unique rock formation is only about 15 feet in length and sits at the base of a small but beautiful waterfall, about 8 feet long.

Getting to Devil's Bathtub is no easy feat, which makes arriving here all the more rewarding. Backcountry enthusiasts can opt for the Devil's Fork Loop Trail, a distinguished hiking trail in Virginia. This 7-mile trek is classified as extremely challenging, with up to 18 stream crossings and a 1,200 foot elevation change. If you're up for it though, the views along the way will be well worth the effort.

Fortunately, Devil's Bathtub is only 1.5 miles from the start of the trail (taking the western leg of the circuit). You'll follow Devil's Fork from the parking lot. Make sure you wear sturdy shoes that can get a little wet, as you'll have a few streams to cross even in this short distance. After the first stream crossing, you'll want to take the trail to the left, which is the less strenuous option.

And finally, you'll arrive at the main attraction. Waters from Devil's Fork spew out into this forest oasis. As inviting as these crystal blue waters may look, make no mistake: the water is brisk! It's not a warm spring like you might find in other parts of the state. But on an especially hot summer day, you might find the cool temperatures to be perfect. It's no mystery why Devil's Bathtub is considered one of the must-see spots in Virginia.
