Sunset Ridge Trail In Vermont Is The Most Beautiful Hike In The Green Mountains

Vermont's Sunset Ridge Trail offers a challenging hike with stunning panoramic views from the peak of Mt. Mansfield.

You often hear that baseball is America's national pastime, but this may have to be amended for Vermont. Instead, hiking is our state's past time, which is fitting for a place so sweetly named the Green Mountain State. With many fun, challenging, and stunningly beautiful trails, Vermont has the best hiking trails in New England—sorry NH, ME, and MA. Let's take a look at the Sunset Ridge Trail in Vermont, one of the best hikes in VT.

The Sunset Ridge Trail leads straight up to the peak of Vermont's tallest mountain, Mt. Mansfield.

With mind-altering beauty and panoramic views of the VT landscape and the Adirondack Mountains from the peak, this trail, at just over six miles, will be tenfold worth your journey up.

You'll access the trailhead from Underhill State Park. There is roadside parking in the state park; follow signs for Sunset Ridge Trail. At the beginning of the trail, you'll encounter several mini wooden foot bridges while traversing the flat section of the hike.

The hike features nice and varied terrain, incline, rock sections, and more. Being one of the premier hikes in Vermont, the trail can become crowded depending on what time of year you wish to do this hike. Tip: Winter is a great time, but make sure to bring proper hiking equipment.

To get to the peak, take the Halfway House trail from Sunset Ridge and then traverse the Long Trail to the Chin (peak of the mountain).

Ascending to the peak is a fun and challenging incline, and the views from the top are magnificent.

Enjoy 360-degree views from the tallest point in Vermont atop the Chin on Mt. Mansfield. You won't want to forget your camera on this hike.
