Seeing The Iconic Delicate Arch Covered In Snow Proves That Winter In Utah Is Magical
Delicate Arch is one of the most recognizable natural arches in the entire country and a must-visit when at Arches National Park. And while this arch is beautiful any time of the year, there is something truly magical about this natural wonder during the winter in Utah.
With more than 2,000 documented natural arches at Arches National Park, there are plenty of arches to visit. However, Delicate Arch is one that every Utahn should visit at least once.
This impressive arch is approximately 60 feet tall, with an opening that is 46 feet high and 32 feet wide. It is one of the largest free-standing arches in the national park and also one of the most beautiful.
To capture exquisite views of Delicate Arch, you can visit the lower and upper viewpoints, each requiring a short, yet easy walk. However, from these viewpoints, the arch is nearly a mile away.
For up-close views, you can take the three-mile round-trip hike to the arch. The trail has quite a few inclines, but the scenery is incredible.
Arches National Park is one of the busiest national parks in Utah with more than 1.5 million visitors each year. And while summer is a popular time at this park, winter is one of our favorites.
Arches National park typically receives less than one inch of snow per month during the winter, and heavy snowfall is rare, but when the park does receive a dusting of snow, it is magical.
If you plan to hike to Delicate Arch following a snowfall, you must be careful. Winter ice can make portions of the trail extremely dangerous and it isn’t uncommon for rangers to rescue individuals who are not fully prepared or who underestimate the trail’s difficulty.
However, the snowy view of the red rock — at Delicate Arch and elsewhere around the park — underneath a coating of snow is stunning. It’s a view that isn’t always common in this part of the state, but it proves that winter in Utah is absolutely magical.
