The Canyon In Utah With The Most Breathtaking Scenery

Utah's mountains are truly stunning. I think it's easy to take them for granted, but there's really nothing like flying into Salt Lake City and seeing the majestic Wasatch mountains. If you're on the plane with folks from out of town, you really appreciate you amazing these mountains are - people in other states might have beautiful mountains, but they're often farther away from the city.

We know our canyons have some great ski resorts, but they're also perfect for summer recreation. Here's one of the biggest (and best), that you'll definitely want to check out this summer.

Big Cottonwood Canyon is 15 miles long and reaches elevations of more than 11,000 feet.

The canyon offers tons of summer recreation, including hiking, rock climbing, picnicking, fishing and more.

The canyon is located just a few miles southeast of Salt Lake City.

To get there, take I-215 to the 6200 south exit. Travel south to Big Cottonwood Canyon Road, and head up the canyon from there!

This canyon is full of gorgeous hiking trails.

Pictured is the Broads Fork Trail, a 4.3 mile hike that takes you to a waterfall.

You'll find several alpine lakes here, too.

Lake Blanche is a strenuous, 6.9 mile hike, but it's so beautiful that the effort is well worth it.

For an easier hike, take the Silver Lake Loop Trail.

This easy, level trail takes you around Silver Lake, and much of it is ADA-accessible.

Big Cottonwood is a popular spot for rock climbers.

Even if you're afraid of heights, it's still lots of fun to watch the climbers scale the granite cliffs here.

Big Cottonwood Canyon is a picturesque place for fishing.

You'll find all kinds of pan trout in the lakes and streams here.

Moose are abundant in the canyon.

Keep your distance from these massive creatures, but you'll definitely want to admire them from afar.

Stay overnight at Solitude Mountain Resort.

The lodging here is really affordable during summer months.

Ride the lift for some incredible canyon views.

Utah's ski resort lifts are a completely different experience in the summer! Enjoy floating over the pines while enjoying that fresh, mountain air and some beautiful views. You'll often spot deer and moose from the lift, too.

You can take the lift at Solitude up and bike down.
