Gates of the Arctic National Park measures in at an impressive 8.4 million acres. This is a natural area that belongs on any outdoor lover's bucket list. It takes a lot to stand out in a place like Alaska: practically the entire state is an amazing natural wonder.

But Gates of the Arctic National Park is particularly amazing, even for Alaska. This park is incredibly remote.

Like many of the best parks in Alaska, there are no roads leading into or out of Gates of the Arctic. Visitors have to either schedule a flight or take an arduous hike in.

Those that do manage to brave the wild and rugged conditions of the Arctic and reach the park are in for a real treat. The views here are truly mesmerizing.

It is estimated that the park receives about 10,000 visitors per year. That's certainly lower than the six million that go to the Grand Canyon, or the nearly five million that head to Yellowstone annually.

The park's low number of visitors is primarily due to the remote nature of the area. It certainly belongs on any list of the most beautiful places in America.
