The 2.8-Mile Rustling Leaves Trail Leads Hikers To The Most Spectacular Fall Foliage In Texas
If you're in search of the best fall hikes in Texas, look no further than the Rustling Leaves Trail. Tucked away in the little-known Daingerfield State Park, this short and sweet stroll meanders around a beautiful lake and is gorgeous any time of year. During autumn, however, the scenery truly comes alive as the leaves change into brilliant red, yellow, and orange hues. Don't let fall pass you by without embarking on this one-of-a-kind adventure.
Located in the beautiful (and criminally underrated) Daingerfield State Park, Rustling Leaves Trail is a short-and-sweet, 2.8-mile loop that kids, adults, and four-legged friends alike can't seem to get enough of. The trail is accessible year-round, but my favorite time to embark on it is during the autumn months.
Texas isn't exactly renowned for fall foliage, but this hike begs to differ. You can expect to see the leaves just starting to change around mid to late November, so the week of Thanksgiving would be the perfect time for a trip.
The trail meanders around the park's pristine lake, and seeing the colorful leaves surrounding the deep blue water is a truly mesmerizing sight.
Towering trees line either side of the path, shrouding you in an autumn wonderland that you'll never want to leave.
Several picnic tables along the way provide opportunities to take respite and soak up the scenery 'til your heart's content.
Be sure to wear comfortable shoes on your hike. Even though it's fairly short and only rated as moderate, any unpaved trail can be hard on your feet.
Aside from the fall foliage, the Rustling Leaves Trail also features a small waterfall, lots of interesting plants, fungi, and wildlife, and - of course - silence so profound that you could hear a pin drop.
This is definitely the trail to take if you're looking for peace and quiet (with a side of brilliant fall foliage that rivals New England) this autumn.
