This Texas Waterfall Is So Hidden, Almost Nobody Has Seen It In Person
Dolan Falls in Devils River State Natural Area is a hidden 15-foot waterfall in Texas, accessible only to experienced paddlers.
There are tons of secret waterfalls in Texas, but this one is so hidden that almost nobody has seen it in person. We're talking about Dolan Falls, a 15-foot cascade tucked away in Devils River State Natural Area. This remote natural wonder isn't easily accessed, but it's so worth the trip.
Remote and rugged, Devils River State Natural Area is tucked away in far southwestern Texas, hundreds of miles from civilization.
The park is home to perhaps the most pristine river in the state, with crystal-clear spring-fed waters that few have dipped their toes in.
A designated International Dark Sky Sanctuary, the park is ideal for spending some time alone with Mother Nature.
Visitors can swim, fish, paddle, hike, bike, and camp. There's boundless adventure to be had - both in the water and on dry land.
In addition to the porcelain-like river and vast wilderness, the park is hiding something else: a breathtaking waterfall.
Dolan Falls is a 15-foot cascade that tumbles down moss-covered rocks into the water below, and it's truly a sight to see.
Getting to the waterfall is no easy task, which is why hardly anyone has seen it in person.
First, you'll have to embark on the one-mile hike from the parking lot to the river. Then, it's another half-mile paddle downstream to the river, and the current is often fast-flowing and treacherous.
Only experienced paddlers should attempt to visit Dolan Falls, as the rapids just beyond the waterfall are class four (class five when the river swells).
Also, nobody should ever attempt to navigate the falls in a canoe or kayak. Instead, find a stopping point and admire them from the rocky ledge above.
So if you don't mind a little solitude, make plans to visit Devils River State Natural Area as soon as possible.
This faraway place will show you a side of Texas you never knew existed but will fall in love with immediately.
