Editor's Note: Due to decreasing water levels, several boat ramps are closed and at others, the water may be too shallow to launch most boats. You can learn about current conditions at Lake Amistad on the National Park Service website.
The Lone Star State is filled with natural beauty, from rolling green pastures to panoramic mountaintop views and everything in between, though we have to say, we're partial to all the beautiful lakes in Texas! One highly underrated spot is Lake Amistad in Del Rio, a borderland paradise that is one of the clearest lakes in Texas. It's reminiscent of a faraway tropical oasis, yet it's right here in the Lone Star State. See for yourself!
Amistad means "friendship" in Spanish, and we can't think of a better way to bond with the ones you love most than creating unforgettable memories in the clearest lake in Texas.
People visit the lake for water recreating, camping, hiking, and viewing incredible Native American rock art.
With miles of wide open water, Lake Amistad's clear water is a boater's paradise perfect for fishing, water skiing, and taking a good old summer's day cruise. The main launch ramps are located at Diablo East, Rough Canyon, Box Canyon, and Southwinds.
Boating passes can be purchased for either one day or three days. Annual passes are also available. They can be purchased either at the Visitor's Center or via an automated permit machine.
But while this crystal-clear lake in Texas is absolutely stunning, you'll notice that from a distance, the water sparkles in vibrant jewel tones.
And just look at those reflections!
There's no better way to escape the scorching desert heat than diving into a cool, refreshing body of water. Temperatures range from 54 during wintertime to a much more comfortable 86 in the summer.
Swim areas are located at Governors Landing and Diablo East, the latter of which also has a SCUBA cove for certified divers. With 30 feet of visibility in some spots, there's no better place to explore the water's depths.
Hiking is also a popular activity here. Several trails wind throughout the Diablo East area and are waiting to be embarked upon.
You can find detailed maps and trail info at AllTrails+.
The Sunrise Trail begins at the Visitor's Center and ends at Spur 454, the Figueroa Trail provides breathtaking views of the lake, and a nature trail shows you some of the park's most unique flora as well as offering challenges for the more advanced hiker.
All in all, Lake Amistad is a gorgeous place to visit whether you like to fish, boat, swim, hike, or all of the above. This clear lake in Texas has endless beauty and recreation to offer!
