From the ocean, lakes and rivers to the marshes and swamps, South Carolina has plenty of H2O for everyone to get their fair share of _____ (fill in the blank with: inner peace, recreation, sanctuary, etc...). Here are 10 magical lakes in South Carolina to help make this an amazing summer for you.

1. Lake Keowee

Folks who live on Lake Keowee swear it's the best lake in the state. With majestic views of the surrounding mountains, it certainly is beautiful.

2. Lake Murray

Grab the kayak and head to gorgeous Lake Murray. With 50,000 acres and roughly 500 miles of shoreline, there's plenty of room to get lost in your own paradise for the day.

3. Lake Marion

South Carolina's largest lake, Lake Marion, covers five counties. Here she is in Manning, SC as the morning fog lifts. Magical, right?

4. Lake Greenwood

Lake Greenwood has 212 miles of shoreline and spans a whopping 11,400 beautiful acres of pure fun and enjoyment.

5. Lake Hartwell

If camping, biking, fishing, swimming, boating and swimming are your thing, then Lake Hartwell is the place to go.

6. Lake Strom Thurmond

Also known as Clarks Hill Lake, this reservoir on the South Carolina, Georgia border is 71,000 thousand acres and one of the largest public recreation areas in the Southeast.

7. Lake Jocassee

Lake Jocassee is a stunning man-made resource in the Upstate. In addition, it was reportedly one of the filming locations for the movie "The Hunger Games."

8. Lake Moultrie

Fed by Lake Marion, Lake Moultrie is a hotspot for fishermen and offers many shallow swamps. Translation: bring a lot of extra hooks, but the bounty is worth it.

9. Lake Wateree

Lake Wateree is a reservoir located about 30 miles north of Columbia on the east side of Interstate 77. The 200+ miles of pristine shoreline make it a huge recreational resource for Columbians. Lake Wateree State Park is a good place to start your exploration.
