Spring has arrived in Rhode Island at last, and we're looking forward to the lush greenery and blooming flowers that will soon be upon us. While most locals know and love our tulip farm, Wicked Tulips, not as many seem to be familiar with our other vibrant flower fields. Petals Farm is an underrated gem, and on certain dates, you can even pick your own blooms.
Petals Farm is located out on Fairgrounds Road in Richmond, near West Kingston.
The farm is owned and operated by Farmer Thanh, an environmentalist and conservationist who believes in practical science- farming.
Thanh launched the business in 2014, putting her degree in Biology to good use.
She is also a Soil Conservationist at NRCS-USDA.
You'll find about 50,000 flowers here at any given time during the blooming season.
Most of the flowers are sold for weddings and other private events, and Thanh’s passion is selecting the perfect combination for each event.
Sometimes, guests are allowed to pick dahlias and sunflowers.
That season is typically from July - October, although you can find announcements on the business Facebook page.
Picking your own flowers is fun -- but if you'd rather let someone else do it for you, just head to the Fishermen’s Memorial State Park Farmers Market in Narragansett on Sundays.
The market is held from May - October and always includes bouquets from Petals Farm.
Of course, nothing tops the feeling of wandering through the sunflower fields, picking your own bouquet.
And if you're growing your own garden, don't forget to check out the plug shop.
Petals Farm is a little piece of paradise.
If you love fresh flowers, consider signing up for a CSA Flower Share from this beautiful blooming business.
