There’s Always Something To Do At Goddard Memorial State Park In Rhode Island

There are 15 stunning state parks in Rhode Island, each with distinct features and a unique character. And while we don't like to play favorites, the parks that lie along our beautiful shoreline are definitely a preference. Goddard Memorial State Park in Warwick is especially delightful, attracting thousands of visitors each year for fun in the sun.

Goddard Memorial State Park is a public recreation area that spans 490 acres along the shores of Greenwich Cove and Greenwich Bay in Warwick.

This is Rhode Island's most popular Metropolitan park, and for good reason.

The park actually has quite a history. It once the estate of Civil War officer and Rhode Island politician Robert Goddard.

Goddard's children donated the land to the state in 1927 as a memorial to their father.

The 1938 hurricane caused some pretty expensive damage to this area. Fortunately, the park remained.

It opened to the public on June 1, 1930.

The beach is definitely the highlight of the park, and it's fantastic.

Located on the shores of Greenwich Bay, the beach is spacious and serene.

The park also has plenty of picnic tables, a performing arts center for weddings and other events, and 18 miles of bridle trails.

There's even a nine hole golf course.

When you're not swimming, sunbathing or kayaking, you can enjoy the varieties of trees from all over the world, including 62 deciduous and 19 evergreen species.

The forested areas are just as beautiful as the shoreline.

Goddard Memorial State Park is a beautiful place to spend your day.

And while it's most popular in the summertime, it's pleasant in every season.
