The Underrated Lake Near Portland That’s Perfect For A Summer Day
River or lake is the big question when looking for a spot to swim around Portland. With several great swimming rivers in the close area, they are often the most logical choice, but if you want to head to a lake, take the drive to Hagg Lake. You will not be disappointed.
Located about 5 miles south of Forest Grove, Henry Hagg Lake is about 45 minutes from the city.
Part of the Tualatin River's watershed, it is an artificial lake made by Scroggins Dam and has been a destination since the 70s.
Watersports are popular here, and you can bring your own raft, or rent a canoe, pedal boat, kayak, or stand-up paddle board at Mad Jack's.
Biking is also loads of fun here. 10 miles of trails make it a perfect place to ride the afternoon away.
Families love the park, with so many nice places to stop for a picnic or swim.
Ducks, geese, and blue herons also can be spotted here, making it a perfect trip for bird lovers of all ages.
If you get enough of the water, there is also an 18-hole mini disc course to entertain you.
The day use fee at the park is $6.
