Take an unforgettable stroll through the Portland Japanese Garden.

This amazing Japanese garden is a hidden gem nestled into the hillsides of Washington Park. It's said to be one of the most authentic Japanese gardens in the U.S., and it's tranquil beauty will positively sweep you off your feet. Admission is $9.50 per adult, with discounts for students, children, and seniors.

Smell the roses at the International Rose Test Garden.

Portland's International Rose Test Garden is a beautifully manicured rose garden located in Washington Park that features over 500 different kinds of roses. (Admission is free, and tours are available, too!)

Explore the Hoyt Arboretum.

This gorgeous arboretum has been around since 1928, and it's amazingly beautiful and serene. Miles of lovely walking trails weave through the woodsy scenery, filled with thousands of different kinds of trees and plants. It's a stunning natural oasis that will make you feel as if you were miles and miles away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Plus, it's free and open to the public.

Spend an afternoon at the Oregon Zoo.

This incredible, 64-acre zoo values sustainability and features over 200 different animal species including lions, bears, wolves, eagles, giraffes, and many more. The zoo also hosts all kinds of fascinating events throughout the year, including a summer concert series and ZooLights (a winter festival of lights display). Regular zoo entrance costs $14.95 per adult, and discounts are offered to seniors and children.

Take the kids to the playground.

No park is complete without a playground.

Visit the Vietnam Veterans memorial.

Located beside the arboretum is a beautiful memorial for veterans of the Vietnam War. A circular pathway leads visitors through an intricately manicured garden dotted with small monuments listing the names of Oregonians who gave their lives during the war.

Check out the exhibits at the World Forestry Center and Portland Children's Museum.

These two awesome buildings are right next to each other, beside the entrance to the Hoyt Arboretum. Stop in to the World Forestry Center to learn about forestry and bring the little ones to the Children's Museum for an awesome experience.
