There’s An Enchanting Oasis Hiding In Plain Sight Just Miles From Oregon’s Largest City

When you need to escape from it all here in Oregon, you don't have to go far. And the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge is one of them. This sublime little sanctuary is located mere minutes from the hum and buzz of busy Portland, so you can escape into nature on a moment's notice.

Located 20 minutes outside of Portland, Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) is one of only a handful of urban national wildlife refuges in the country.

This oasis is 1,856 acres of Beaver State beauty; an enchanting oasis of wetlands and lowlands.

There is a one-mile long nature trail here that meanders through a variety of habitats, wildlife viewpoints, and interpretive stops, culminating in an expansive view at the wetland observation deck.

Please note: in order to preserve and protect the beautiful landscape and its inhabitants, dogs and bikes are not allowed at the Tualatin River NWR.

Well-known for its birding, this nature sanctuary is home to more than 200 different avian species.

The preserve is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Tuesday-Sunday, and closed on Mondays. The best part? Admission to this glorious place is free!
