Located on the northern side of Lincoln City is a natural landmark that's truly the product of a divine hand—or thumb.
Known as "God's Thumb," this landmark is an imposing basalt rock formation measuring over 1,000 feet tall. It's a testament to the unparalleled power of nature.
You'll access the landmark via The Knoll, a lush forest trail.
(You won't see signs for a "God's Thumb" hike, but follow The Knoll and you'll be on the right track.)
Signs will lead you through, and out of, the forest. As you emerge, you'll be greeted with the sound of crashing waves, and get your first glimpse of God's Thumb.
The path up the hill is narrow and steep, but well-worth the effort.
At the top of God's Thumb, you’ll see some seriously spectacular views the Oregon coastline it all its splendor. At the bottom, the waves crash over a charming, craggy coastline.
And if you're lucky, you may even see a bald eagle perched poetically on the peak.
The summit is absolutely breathtaking; but if you're bothered by heights, you can still enjoy this beautiful nature scene from the trail.
God's Thumb is a treasure, and makes for one of the best hikes on the Oregon Coast.
