Little Baldy Trail is a short and sweet hike in Oklahoma that offers some spectacular views. It’s less than a mile long, measuring in at about 0.8 miles. It's also fairly flat, making it the perfect option for people who want to see great sights while taking it easy.
The trail is located in the Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge, which is the oldest managed wildlife refuge in the United States. It dates back to 1901.
The refuge's aim is to protect wildlife habitats and allow plants and animals within to flourish.
Little Baldy Trail is used year-round and is great for walking (leashed) dogs or taking a quick stroll in the fresh air.
There is a small amount of climbing at the end in order to get the best view, but it isn’t anything too challenging. The entire trail is marked easy to moderate.
There is a lake right off the trail, which can be viewed from a stone bridge and dam.
Incredible rock formations and small mountains can also be seen from the trail, elevating the natural beauty of the place.
Wildflowers and cacti grow with abandon in the area. There are so many colors and shapes to look at while hiking the trail.
Little Baldy Trail isn’t marked, but it is the perfect trail for wandering through nature and taking in all the sights and sounds of Oklahoma.
It allows for flexibility while maintaining the goal of reaching trail's top point.
The sunset views are amazing from Little Baldy. Brilliant shades of orange and yellow illuminate the rock and create a glow in the area that can’t be missed.
The Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge is located at 32 Refuge Headquarters Road in Indiahoma, Oklahoma, and Little Baldy Trail is near the Doris Campground.
