Hike This Ancient Forest In Oklahoma That’s Home To 500-Year-Old Trees

We are fortunate to have so many beautiful places to enjoy the outdoors in Oklahoma. From forests to state parks to mountain ranges, our topography is quite expansive in the Sooner State. There's an Ancient Forest in Sand Springs that's home to 500-year-old trees and it looks like something right out of a storybook.

Keystone Ancient Forest is a hidden treasure in Oklahoma. Not many know about this place and once you see it, you'll want to visit.

This crosstimber forest is home to 500-year-old cedars and 300-year-old post oak trees.

There are map trails with trail guides nearby if you have any questions or need help. It's in the middle of a forest and provides great shade in summer and beautiful hues in the falls.

Parts of the trail are paved, while others are dirt or grass paths.

Inside the forest is 1,360 acre nature preserve. It truly feels like you're in the middle of a fairy tale.

It's known as one of the last great places on earth and boasts magnificent views of the nearby lake and topography.

Keystone Ancient Forest is only open on Saturdays, with a few exceptions for special events. There are trail guides out if you need assistance, but the hikes are self-guided.

The remaining 2018 dates are as follows: November 10, 17, 24, and December 8. Gates open at 8 a.m. and lock at 2 p.m.
