Hike To This Sandy Cave In Ohio For An Out-Of-This World Experience

Here in Ohio, there's so much to explore outdoors. If you're a nature lover and you enjoy hitting the trails, then there's an impressive cave with a massive sandy floor that you need to explore. Ash Cave at Hocking Hills State Park is downright breathtaking. A short hike here is perfect when you don't have the entire day to explore.
Within the southern most portion of the Hocking Hills region, you'll find Ash Cave. It's a popular area locals love to explore.

This gorgeous cave measures 700 ft. from end to end, 100 ft. deep and 90 ft. high. It features sandy floors and a tall, cascading stream visitors love to photograph.
Named after a large pile of ashes found under the cave by early settlers or Native Americans, Ash Cave has a long history of sheltering inhabitants long before the state park was established.
The Ash Cave Trail features a .25 mile long Gorge Trail that is wheelchair accessible, as well as a .5 mile long Rim Trail.
Most days, the falls that flow from the top of Ash Cave are fairly narrow but being able to walk behind them is still a magical experience.
Local legend says some lingering spirits of the cave's inhabitants may haunt the cave to this day. Strange lights have been spotted in the woods opposite the cave.
During an educational hike with park staff near the cave, a pair of greenish-yellow lights darted in and out of the trees one winter evening, according to heartofhocking.com.
The gorge trail is just a 1/4-mile in length so it's perfect for a short hike. Camping at the cave is not permitted but the trail is open until dusk.
