Venture Nearly 100-Feet Deep Below The Earth At These One Of A Kind Caverns In Ohio

Year-round, a visit to the Ohio Caverns in West Liberty is the perfect way to seize the day, learn something new about our state and have an unforgettable adventure. You'll journey nearly 100 feet below the ground—and see a whole new side to Ohio.

"America's Most Colorful Caverns" can be found in West Liberty, Ohio. They're filled with crystal stalactites, stalagmites and other fascinating formations.

You'll find the caverns at 2210 State Route 245 East, West Liberty, OH 43357.

The Ohio Caverns were formed thousands of years ago when an underground river cut through ancient limestone and created vast rooms and passageways.

The designated Deepest Point of the caverns is 103 feet (31 m) underground.

Within the Deepest Point is one of the world's largest and most perfectly formed stalactites, Crystal King, (pictured below).

It's nearly five feet long, weighing an estimated 400 pounds, and is estimated to be more than 200,000-years-old.

During your visit, consider gem mining at the sluice. It's especially fun to do with groups and families.

Costs range from $5 to $10, for 3 - 5 pounds of mining rough. During the winter months, an indoor sluice is available.

There are several different tours you can take, including a Natural Wonder Tour, Historic Tour, Limestone Tour and Tree Tour.
