A scenic drive through the South Unit of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park offers stunning views of North Dakota's highest hills, canyons, and wildlife.

A scenic drive through North Dakota is the perfect remedy for stress or simply that feeling of wanderlust. We have quite a few lovely scenic byways in this state, but what we also have is an unforgettable route through the iconic buttes, canyons, and hills in the western region. This road will take you up the hills and through the most gorgeous features of that area with plenty of surprises along the way. It's one you won't forget, and one you absolutely have to take.

Take a scenic drive through the South Unit of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park for an unforgettable experience through the state's highest hills.

The towering natural structures are awe-inspiring, and they certainly prove everyone wrong who thinks North Dakota is just flat!

The drive is 36 miles long and will go over, around, and all throughout the canyons of the badlands. This is especially gorgeous in the summer or fall when the hills are lush with colorful plants.

Don't be surprised if you hit some traffic along the way, though!

Bison roam the park freely and often cross the roads, or sometimes use them, so you might get an up-close and personal encounter from behind the wheel. Just drive slow and let them do their thing. They certainly make the drive interesting.

You can expect to see some wild horses during your travels, as well. The park is home to many beautiful herds that you might come across.

They might even get a little bit close while you're making the journey! It's certainly not something you can say you've seen every day.

Throughout it all, you will be able to see stunning views like this of the Little Missouri River and the rough, gorgeous terrain around it. There is no other drive like it - it's only in North Dakota.

This scenic drive can be found in the South Unit of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park, located near Medora, ND. The drive begins right at the entrance road and continues through the park.
