Theodore Roosevelt National Park's North Unit offers breathtaking views, especially from the River Bend Overlook.

North Dakota has so many places to explore, but none quite as popular as the Theodore Roosevelt National Park - and there's a reason for that. This national park is truly stunning and iconic. While the South Unit of the park tends to be the most popular, the North Unit is equally as impressive. Take a little adventure up to that unit and experience a view that'll stay in your memory forever.

Head out to the North Unit of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park near Watford City to discover one of the most breathtaking overlooks in the state.

Partway through the scenic drive in the park, you can stop off and get out of your car for a walk to the special spot.

This is the River Bend Overlook where the view is sure to knock your socks off. You'll be standing on top of one of the many buttes of the badlands, overlooking the Little Missouri River.

The river winds through the valley that it has been slowly carving out for millennia. In the spring and summer it becomes lush with green and in the winter it is beautifully snowcapped.

From the vantage point in the stone CCC building, originally built in the 1930s, you can see the colorful layers of sediment that make up the "painted" canyons. They come in all sorts of unique shapes and sizes.

You're also likely to see wildlife roaming the prairie grasses below, including the park's famous wild bison herds.

The view is spectacular in every aspect and worth a short adventure to reach. It's just that incredible!

You'll find the River Bend Overlook along the scenic drive in the North Unit of the park. You'll definitely find the view is worth the walk! This is one of many awesome overlooks in North Dakota. Click here for an entire list of what are arguably the most stunning vantage points in the state.
