It’s An Epic Outdoor Adventure Noodling For Catfish In North Carolina
A unique adventure in North Carolina accommodates fishing for catfish using your hands instead of a fishing pole! Noodling is reaching inside a catfish hole and feeling around until you get a fish. Can you imagine doing this in your wildest dreams? Founded in 2015, Get Bit Noodling provides such an adventure in four of the Piedmont area lakes, including Lake Norman, Lake Gaston, Badin Lake, and High Rock Lake. Noodling — aka grabblin or hand fishing — is fun for all ages, but not recommended for children under 12 due to the strength required to control the fish. Are you ready to see some of the people who participate in noodling in North Carolina?
Badin Lake is one place noodling takes place where folks meet at the dock.
The trips usually begin at 8:30 a.m. and last four or eight hours, or until you are tired.
Noodlers will go out on a 20-foot Sea Hunt Bay Boat with a Bimini top in case you want to get out of the sun for a while.
This boat is loaded with catfish-hole boxes which are normally in about 4 feet of water through which the catfish exit and enter.
These allow people to go under water, grab the fish, and get their heads above water before pulling the fish all the way out of the holes.
It's hard to beat the beauty at High Rock Lake where Get Bit Noodling staff also coordinates the fishing adventures.
We like the option of going along as a spectator.
This person had a successful day noodling!
You can see how heavy the fish are and when they are trying to get away, it really requires some strength.
Lake Gaston is another lovely location for this sport.
This lake runs through North Carolina and Virginia.
It's a great adventure for families and friends to try something new.
And remember - all fish are catch and release only.
The outfit also heads out to Lake Norman.
It's a way to see some of these beautiful lakes in the state you might not otherwise visit.
Does this look like an adventure you might enjoy as much as these people?
Remember to bring towels, a change of clothes, a bathing suit, water shoes, gloves, sun screen, snacks, and a dry bag for your phone or camera. Imagine the memories you'll make and the stories you'll tell from this experience!
