This 2.8-Mile Trail In North Carolina Leads To A Double Waterfall And A Waterfall Swimming Hole
Discover the stunning Harpers Creek Falls in North Carolina, featuring two waterfall swimming holes accessible via a moderate 2.8-mile hike.
Is there anything better than hiking trails with swimming holes? In the heat of the summer season, North Carolina's many waterfalls are in high demand from residents and visitors looking to bask in the sun while cooling off in the remote mountain waters of a stunning waterfall hidden in the middle of a forest. Today, we're taking you to an incredible Linville Gorge swimming hole via Harper Creek Falls Trail. Let's go!
One of those waterfall swimming holes is located not too far from Grandfather Mountain, Linville, and Linville Falls.
It's a stunning double waterfall called Harpers Creek Falls. Together, the pair rises more than 50 feet in two quick drops in a row.
There are actually two swimming holes here: the one between the two falls and the other one in the plunge pool below the lower falls.
A rope has been affixed to the rock to help swimmers scramble back up to the top of the lower falls to slide down it again and again.
Keep in mind, though, that the falls here are very powerful after a heavy rainfall. Avoid swimming here soon after a heavy rain, as the power within the plunge pool can be overwhelming and might pull you under.
Getting to Harpers Creek Falls is a 2.8-mile hike from where you park your car.
Although AllTrails has ranked the trail as moderate, most people say it's relatively easy, although there is some climbing and at least one steep ascent is assisted by way of a rope tied to a tree at the top.
You'll hike under a cool, green canopy overhead.
Because of some steep areas, the trail isn't recommended for small children.
And the huge swimming hole does have some deep spots. The pool here has been described as being similar in size to an Olympic-size pool.
One more bonus to Harpers Creek Falls is a hidden camping area found just above the upper falls. Imagine two consecutive days of fun at this forested swimming hole!
Harpers Creek Falls is accessible year-round, although the best times to hike here are during warm weather months.
