Even though it may be winter, that doesn’t mean that you have to stay indoors all season. Since we are blessed with fairly mild winters, we can still find the time to head outside and explore the great outdoors. This particular park near New Orleans is just a short drive from the city and has endless boardwalk trails and you’ll want to explore them all. Let’s take a closer look.
You’ll find Barataria Preserve in Marrero, just a short drive from New Orleans.
It’s about a half hour away, and 100% worth the drive. Their address is 6588 Barataria Blvd., Marrero, LA 70072.
Once you arrive, you can pop into the visitors center for restrooms, a cold beverage, and check out the exhibits.
Most of the trails connect to each other, and they’re all well marked.
Barataria Preserve contains over 20,000 acres of some of the most beautiful natural scenery Louisiana has to offer.
Beautiful bayous, swamps, marshes, and forests just waiting for you to explore.
The boardwalk and gravel trails will give you a glimpse at parts of Louisiana’s wild wetlands that you just wouldn’t be able to see otherwise.
These are areas that boats and canoes just cannot get to, so you’ll feel like you’re miles and miles away from everything.
All of the trails are under two miles long.
So you can mix and match to fit your schedule.
And each trail offers something different.
From palmettos to bayou overlooks, you'll be amazed at how each trail varies in its surroundings.
The preserve is home to tons of wildlife, so keep your eyes peeled.
Over 200 species of birds call the area home in additional to all the usual swamp critters like raccoons, turtles, snakes, and tons of alligators.
At the end of the Marsh Overlook Trail, you'll be treated to a sweeping marsh view that will make your jaw drop.
On a clear day, it's perhaps one of the prettiest sights around.
